Quotes: Antoine de Saint-Exupery

"I have no right, by anything I do or say, to demean a human being in his own eyes. What matters is not what I think of him; it is what he thinks of himself. To undermine a man's self-respect is a sin."

Antoine de Saint-Exupery (1900 -1944)

French writer and aviator, author of the The Little Prince and other works, who was shot down on a reconnaisance flight in 1944 over France whilst fighting with the Free French Forces.

In a separate item, the German Luftwaffe fighter ace who shot down Saint-Exupery was tracked down by Saint-Exupery's biographer.  It was the first that the ace knew of having shot down his favourite author.  He said that if he had known who was in the plane. he would have held his fire.
